Dickens Village 2014 Schedule Announced

“It’s Halloween” in Maplewood Village

Annual Halloween Parade in Maplewood Village
Thursday October 31, 3-5 pm

Streets close at 3 pm for trick or treating. The costume contest will be held between 3 and 4:30 pm and prizes will be awarded at 4:40 pm.

This little film, produced by Catherine Stratton, local resident and owner of 9beach Films, is an homage to ‘In the Street,’ a film created in the early 1940s by the photographer, Helen Levitt, Janice Loeb and the writer, James Agee. Their film portrays urban children exploring their imaginary worlds and reveling in the freedom to express their exuberance on the neighborhood streets that were their playgrounds.

“One day a year, on Halloween, the main street in my town is closed off from traffic for 3 hours giving children the chance to take back the streets and make it a place for spontaneity and play once again. I shot this film as if I was one of the young kids taking in the happenings around me: always moving, always looking, never staying in one place for very long. It was a good day.”
