Maplewood Mandala Project
Mandala (Sanskrit ‘circle’) a spiritual and ritual symbol representing the cosmos in Hinduism and Buddhism
Beginning Monday, August 10 through Saturday, August 15, 2015, five Buddhist monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery in Tibet will be in residence in Maplewood, NJ to create a magnificent work of mandala sand art inside the Great Hall at the Woodland, located at 60 Woodland Rd. in Maplewood NJ.
This mesmerizing feat of artistry and concentration requires over 30 hours to complete with the monks working up to eight hours per day. The public is invited free of charge to observe the construction of the sand painting.

Rent Party, founded in October 2009, Rent Party is a live concert series in Maplewood Village held monthly at The Woodland. Proceeds from these shows help fight hunger in our community.

Built as the First Church of Christ Science in 1925, this architectural gem was deeded to the Township in 1988 by realtor Jean T. Burgdorff, a Maplewood resident and patron of the arts. Located steps from Maplewood Village, the multi-purpose facility houses a 100 seat theatre and 1600 sq feet Community Room. Suitable for classes, performances and private functions, both spaces are available for rental to residents and non-residents of Maplewood Township.

Completed in 1930 as an elegant home for the Maplewood Woman’s Club organization, the Georgian Revival style mansion and adjoining auditorium were designated a local historic landmark in 2014. Renamed The Woodland, this architectural jewel houses two unique spaces which are available for private parties and public events.
